I have tried this numerous times using a +R disk on my Samsung dvd-vr375 (combo dvd and vcr player). It appears to be recording and does an automatic finalizing step, but when I try to play the dvd, even though the counter is "counting", the screen is blank with no audio. We have a Samsung HDTV, a Dish Network DVR, and all components run through the HDMI cables into a Yamaha sound bar. Thanks for your help. Please make the answer simple for my simple mind. (P.S. Do I need to format this disk first? Will THAT make a difference? Should I use a different disk format?)

A silly-but necessary question...are there any cables running from the dvr to the recorder? When you turn the recorder on to it's Line input channel, do you see the dvr feed before hitting the record button on the recorder?

And to ensure you are getting the video to the recorder, you may want to connect a TV or Monitor to the output of the recorder, you should be able to see what is being actually recorded, if it is blank, that is what is being recorded.

You may need to go into the Dish menu and turn on the "Enable Recording to an External Device" feature (ERD).

I don't know if your DVR is like that, but at least on my 322 Dish tuner you have to - otherwise you'll get a completely blank recording like you're describing.

Don't know about Dish but on my DirecTV HD-Tivo I have to set it to output at 480i.

I have Directv and don't have to change anything because the component or S-Video out will only send 480i. Oh wait, you have one of the older Tivos. In that case you would be correct but not on any of the newer receivers or DVRs.
