Generally, the sound of the 360 itself makes enough noise to drown out any noise coming from the add-on, unless you put your ear up pretty close to it. However, once the console is powered down, I can hear the drive going from a few feet away until it finally shuts down. So I guess I have two questions: Is it normal that the drive takes a little while to shut down compared to the console (especially since it's using it's own power supply)? Second, should one be able to hear the drive whirring away in an otherwise quiet room? When people say their drive is silent, are they just speaking relatively? Cause I can easily say that my HD-DVD drive does make more noise than my standalone DVD player, which truly is silent.
