My HT has a shelf above a window opposite the screen. I can either mount the pj right side up, and have to angle it down severely towards the sreen, or I can just turn it upside down on top of the shelf and run it in ceiling mode.

I have little rubber feet that raise it above the shelf so that the buttons are not affected.

Is this configuration apt to damage the pj? Heat issues maybe?

Thanks,

John

Heat will be an issue if the shelf is within an enclosure, which will recirculate heated exhaust from the projector back into the projector's intake. If the shelf is open to the sides, then you will want to mount the projector so that there is plenty of clearance to the back. I would use a thick enough spacer so that there is plenty of clearence between the top of the projector and the shelf, and I would also consider drilling a number of 1/2" holes in the shelf where the projector will be located.

You could always place a simple fan next to the projector. There are fans out there that are ultra quite, just in case you need it.

I have my AE100 mounted this way exactly. I put some rubber pads on the top of the unit, flipped it ceiling style and set it on a shelf on the back wall of my living room. Between the projector and the shelf I built a 12" square platform with adjustable feet on each corner so I could make fine adjustments. There's about 1/4" of clearance between the projector and the platform. I was also concerned that it would get too hot but my temperatures are around 124 and 156 which seems plenty cool compared with others that have posted their readings. If you mount it desktop style on the shelf and tilt it you will have horrible keystoning. You want to set it a the perfect height so you have your keystone adjustment set to 0. Even +1 or -1 distorts the picture.

You didn't give much detail about the immediate shelf situation, is it possible to drill mount holes into the shelf and mount the projector to the bottom side of the shelf?
