I'm planning on doing the 'crazily modded x1' thing of making an iris.

I was thinking the easiest way to do it would be to just run the projector

with the lid off, and observe how the iris blocked the light.

That would make it obvious how to modify the iris to improve it.


Also, it'd be nice to be able to stick the iris in/out without having

to turn the projector on and off. That's a signifigant time saver if you

factor in bulb cooldown/warmup time. I wouldn't even need the cover

off for that signifigant of a time.


Also it would be fun to just take pictures of the projector on with

the cover off, and whatnot.

I've run an X1 without the cover on.

You are really only going to have 2 problems ...

1. Dust ... it'll get everywhere.

2. The light that the DMD refracts away from the optical engine ... it's like a spotlight beaming at a 45 degree angle upwards from the projector. It can be quite annoying.
