My receiver is out of my line of site and I'm having trouble controlling the volume of my receiver from my couch.

A friend mentioned that it is possible to set your tv to control the volume of the receiver via hdmi so I can just point my remote at the tv. It sounds fishy.. but is it possible?

I think it is called "HDMI Control" or something like that. You may need to turn the feature on in the setup menus of the receiver/TV.

Another option would be to add an IR repeater system. I set one of these up recently using the following items from Parts Express and it works perfectly:

The both do ... on Samsung devices it's called Anynet+ and on your Onkyo it's called HDMI Control (RIHD) (see p. 79 in your Owner's manual), although don't always work as desired depending on the individual components.
