Is it safe to make my own Video Driver in PowerStrip?

I have a Sony KP-46WT510 hooked up to my radeon 9700pro via DVI-D. I am pretty sure the default windows driver is limiting me to a resolution of 824*468 @ 60 hzs. I see there is an option to make your own driver with powerstrip but I want to make sure that it isnt going to ruin my TV. I want to make a driver that allows for a res of 1920*1080.

I've been using a custom driver for over a year now without issues. All it does is fake out the drivers to allow higher resolutions.
