I'm concerned about some peculiar behavior that occasionally occurs shortly after changing channels or when a show cuts to/from a commercial. The set appears to loose synchronization for short periods resulting in loss of picture and sound and "block patterns". This usually clears up in a couple of seconds, but on rare occasions, I have to switch to another channel and come back to get a normal picture. I'm using a Comcast Motorola 6208 which also appears to delay broadcasts about 3.5 seconds relative to the Comcast SD simulcast shown on an old CRT TV. Is the problem with my new Panasonic 50PHD6UY, Cable Box, or Comcast?

It's actually the DVR Box. Usually it will occur between programs as the DVR briefly stops recording and starts back up again. Remember the DVR is always recording as you are watching TV so that you can "pause live TV" .. And usually it's only on the HDTV channels as they store more information.

Thanks for the responses. The problem does only occur with HD programming. I have one more clue that suggests - at least to me - that it is probably the Moto Cable Box/DVR. When I record and playback a HD program that originally contained these dropouts, the recorded HD version looks perfect. I'm assuming the Moto 6208 is doing direct digital recordings because there is no loss of quality in HD programs. Don't know why the glitches would show up on the original and not the recording, but am relieved to know that there is nothing wrong with my new TV. Has anyone else had this problem with a Moto 6208 DVR?

Thanks JWhip,

It's a relief to know that there is nothing wrong with my TV. I'm scheduled to upgrade to the Moto 6412 when Comcast gets them early next year. I'm also hoping it's a big improvement over the 6208. While the 6208 does make perfect HD recordings, it scores zero in the area of convenience features.

I have this exact same combo. Definitely either your cable signal strength or the DVR function. Try rewinding and playing back where it broke up. I've noticed the DVR sometimes works better if it's not quite at "live TV". That DVR does do its job but it has many minor glitches. How did you get "scheduled" for a 6412 upgrade?
