Is it worth repairing? 6-7 year old Toshiba CX35F60

My 6-7 year old Toshiba CX35F60 35" Tube will not turn off. When depressing the power on/off button or the remote power button the screen remains on but the sound is off. I have to pull the plug to turn the video off, which is a job because this monster is inside of a wall entertainment center which does not have rear access. Has anyone had a problem like this? If so, is it an inexpensive repair or should I be considering purchasing a new TV?

Thanks.

I just got off the phone with a "Toshiba Certified" Repair shop and they said that they had never heard of such a problem. They said that it sounds as if it could be something "major" and might be a controller circuit board? One thing that they asked is if the TV is connected to a cable box? It is not, but I do have it connected to a Radio Shack catv signal booster. I powered this off and back on, but that did not seem to have anything to do with the problem.

So, if anyone has heard of this problem please let me know.

Thanks again.

Does the set power off using the button on the TV (I.E. not using the remote)?
Thanks for the follow-up Ratman.

No, neither the physical on/off button on the set or the remote's power button turn off the video. What happens is that the set will blink off for a split second and then the video comes back on (slightly dim) with no sound. When either the physical on/off button or the remote are pressed again the set blinks off for a split second and the video and sound come back on.

So, the video never powers off, just the sound.

Weird, huh?

Take care.
