After powering on, my sub works fine for about 10 seconds and then it 'booms' 3 or 4 times and then cuts out. Any ideas?

Could be the amp or just some fuses. Mine did the same thing. After a round about long process, which I will not get into here for the sake of space, it turned out to be some fuses. Hope it all works out.

I'd take it in and get it checkout out. Almost sounds like the amp is going into oscillation.

I'd get it checked out at a shop and see what they say..

Sounds like the output transistors are breaking down under operation. In any case, the plate amp needs service, but it seems like the driver is ok. If servicing the plate amp is over $150, bail out and just buy a new one from Parts Express that closely matches yours in power and dimensions (or just buy a new sub...which might actually be cheaper).

I agree with mike it may be cheaper to buy a new sub. Anyhow let us know how you made out so we know whether or not we should play taps.
