Is my sub ok?

933 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  vashwood
Hey guys. I'm a long time lurker, but first time poster. I bought the Dayton SUB-100 and got it last week, but I just found out I did something stupid. I was wondering why it just didn't sound right. The volume always seemed too low no matter how high I turned up the receiver and/or subwoofer gain.

So I just checked the wiring (should have done it sooner), and I realized I had mistakenly hooked up the rca to the "OUTPUT" instead of the "INPUT"!

Could that have messed anything up in anyway? Is there anything I can do to test out if everything is working ok? When I was trying figuring stuff out, I at one point had the sub gain turned to about 2/3.

Yeah. I put it to the INPUT. It sounds fine. But I'm not sure if 'everything' is ok. What technically happens when the Receiver Sub-Out is connected to the Subwoofer Out? I would have thought that I wouldn't be able to hear anything.
It's just cross talk (interaction) between the sub amp and receiver. Don't worry about it , just enjoy your sub.

Thanks,

I just read about using a sine sweep to test the subwoofer. But I also read that it was dangerous for the drivers. What precautions can I make before I play the sweep? I was going to use a sweep from 10hz to 100hz from the realmofexcursion site

I guess just make sure to not play it too loud. And give the driver time to rest after each sweep.
