I am in the market to replace my Samsung 931hd player. I like both the 2910 and the 3910. I am trying to determine if the 3910 is $500 worth more then the 2910. My questions are few:

1)Other than the Denon Pixel enhancer circuit the two seem to be identical where picture quality is concerned. Is the Pixel Enhancer needed? What does it do?

2)Does the 2910 have the same picture adjustment features as the 3910?

3)I know that the 2910 has the 1791 dacs and the 3910 has the 1796 dacs. Is the difference that great?

4)Does the 2910 have bass management for SACD?

5)Other then the dacs and the Pixel Enhancer what is the difference between the two?

6)Am I right in my assessment that you can run DD5.1, DTS, DVD-A and SACD thru the coaxial inputs and bypass the receiver's dacs and use the DVD players dacs for audio output? If true that means better sound from my DVD movies -- right?

If anyone has these answers I would appreciate a response. My equipment is a Pioneer Elite 630HD and a Denon 983avr (same as the 2805 except no Blurr-Brown dacs.) I have a matched Yamaha speaker setup including a powered Yamaha sub woofer. I am trying to determine if I should get the 3910 for the dacs or because of my equipment the 2910 and hope for the best. Any input would be greatly appreciated --thanks.

If you can afford, 3910 is worth.

The general perception is that the picture quality should be comparable.

As for bass management of hi-rez music, in 2910, there's no speaker distance compensation and there's only 80Hz preset cut-off.

Coaxial connection won't play SACD. Coaxial connection means using DACs of the receiver (unlike what you say in your post). DVD player's DACs will be used if you make 5.1 analog connection. This is where 3910 is perceived as having better audio due to better DACs. If you have coaxial connection for DD and DTS, say for movies and/or non-hirez music, you will be using your receiver's DACs.

I wonder how the 5910 will fall into this mess. I've got a 2910 because I don't care about the DACs. If you really care about having good DACs in the player, then maybe you should skip the 3910 and wait for the 5910.

Maybe the price on the 5910 is too prohibitive and most people will "settle" (relatively) for the 3910? Be interested in what other people think about this.

Thanks for the input. PQ is basically the same but the audio using the analog output of the 3910 is superior to the 2910. Since I am interested in not only improving my PQ but also enhancing the audio I am going to get the 3910. Now if I can just get a little better price from my local dealer I will be in Denon nirvana by Friday!

The Denon 5910 is rumored to be at least MSRP of 3 grand. It MIGHT have WM9 HD capability. MIGHT.

Yes, that kind of price puts it out of reach for a lot of people. I really couldn't see spending that kind of money that close to the advent of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray myself. I'm sure it will be amazing, though.

I think the price of the 3910 will drop a little bit when the 5910 comes out. At that point, you'll have a lot of fence sitters (maybe even me, although I don't know if I'll wait this long), scoop up 3910's like mad.

That's a pretty big bomb to drop without backing it up. Where, may I ask, did you hear or read this? Thanks.
