I have a Hitachi plasma (Digital Cable Ready) and a Moto CableCard. I am having some issues (v-chip capability doesn't work, slow channel changing, and others) and Hitachi claims the CableCard is the tuner so I need to talk to Moto. They say that they CableCard outputs a video and an audio signal and the TV just displays it.

Is this the case?

imao,

CableCard is just the slot for the card from your cable company. You need the CableCard "card" itself to tune encrypted digital cable channels on your TV. If you have Comcast, they will provide this card at no extra charge if you subscribe to digital cable.

Digital channels are always slower to change than analog channels, which is program guides (which your Hitachi doesn't have) are so important. That said, the digital tuners in many TVs are slower than the tuners in the HDTV boxes offered by the cable company. If you have Comcast, you may want to try their HDTV set-top for $5/mo. Many people prefer to use that box instead of the tuner integrated in the TV.
