Bye, Bye...... :(
It's Dead and what a shame

D-VHS is for recording, and will be for years to come

-Gary
D-Theater was meant to be kind of a 'bridging' solution between DVD and a new HD disc format. Unfortunately the bridge is only half done and for about 12 to 24 months we will now have no prerecorded HD movie content at all.

Very sad times for us HD videofiles. Even knowing this, I just purchased a JVC HM-DH5U (major reason was the HDMI out).

Well lets hope that Blu-ray Disc comes to the rescue before to long!!
DTheater is surely dead but maybe it is possible some new pre-recorded D-VHS might be available from HDNet. That is probably not likely either.

Chris
I was quietly hoping that X3 would eventually be released on DTheater.
DTheater: "I'm not dead yet!"
[studios whack him on the head with a cudgel.]
I'll say it again...the studios are losing money by not continuing to release D-Theater titles. Stupid, stupid, stupid... There's a year + window before Blu-Ray/PS3 launch they've lost/continue to lose sales in...

(I say that because they'll only have significant software sales when the PS3 comes out)
What a shame that it had to come to this. But I am proud that I have D-Theater and my friends that come to demo my system are simply flabbergasted when I throw in any DVHS movie.

I am patiently awaiting the arrival of Blu Ray.
D-Theater may not be "officially" dead yet

someone needs to ask JVC at CES

-Gary
The things that occur to me as the likely reasons that they clamed up are:

1. the market was so small, why bother with it?

2. folks were learning to actually record with the recorders, so, we no longer want to encourage this format...?

Another thang, Widescreen Review seemed so involved in the format, why are they mum?
R.i.p.

Maybe we could convince FOX to put out a few more titles? Planet of the Apes reissue would be nice.
It wasn't even alive. I never saw it on any shelf.
DVHS is alive and well in my home theater until the arrival of Blu Ray and HD DVD. When my friends come over and I demo it on the Qualia their jaws drop. They can not believe it. That in and of itself makes DVHS worth it.
Estimates of over 1 year to bd players,ps3 and titles are surely off by ~6mos. Having said that I'm sorry to see dtheater fade to black. A format the studios should have had the cajones to push but instead it will be a footnote in hds story.
D-VHS will remain in my media room for years to come, long after optical HD formats arrive

D-Theater could still be a very useful and successful format if JVC wanted it to be

-Gary
laserdisc is DEAD compared to DVHS. There were formal announcements from Pioneer of it's death. Victor has said nothing about it so it aint dead yet... consumer Beta died just a couple of years ago when the announcent from Sony of no blank tapes being produced. Prerecorded studio releases ceased in the 1990's. If Victor announce the same thing with Dtheater/DVHS blanks most people will just use SVHS.:D
