I just got a Pioneer Elite vsx 94txh...have Mitsi 73 1080p....twc motorola HDTV box...should I connect the cable box to tv via HDMI and route audio to AVR via optical? If I do that I get no upconverting by the AVR...(1080i coming out of HDTV box)...if I want any video processing by the AVR it has to be done with either s-video or component cable to AVR (it won't process anything coming in on HDMI)

I watched Platoon on cinemax the other nite...HDTV box to Mitsi via hdmi

and the picture was really bad...same with non hdtv sports programs on espn etc....

wondering if any improvement can be had with the equipment I have..

any thoughts would be appreciated

HDMI straight out of a HD box should be best.

Many will say to use 720p over 1080i if you have that option on your HD box.

Send the video straight to the tv. Set the cable box to do no processing on the signal. Then let the receiver handle the audio.
