First, based on current pricing it is more like $600ish. That being said, the technology of the Sony for sure is more advanced. I'd say the slightly higher brightness is with the Epson, contrast is similar between the 2 (real world), colors probably are better on the Epson. But, again, overall reliability, performance, etc... goes to the Sony. Now whether it is worth the cost increase..personal choice really.
