Hello all-


Just curious.....In comparing 46 inch LCD's I have noticed that the Sony XBR Series is 3x the price of the Spectre. Is the quality that much better. For example, the Sony goes for around $2100 and the Spectre goes for around $700. I looked at the Spectre at MicroCenter and it looked pretty good. The Sony also looks good, but wanted to get some information from the folks on the forum.


Any comments would be appreciated.

Anything is worth 3x the price of a Spectre, they are bottom of the barrel budget TV's with pretty poor PQ and features.

I understand you get what you pay for, but there seem to be a lot of folks here that love the PQ of the Spectre.....seems like they are having some quirks with the features and firmware, but PQ does not seem to be the issue. Thanks for the comment....something to think about!

It really depends on how much you are willing to spend, but I can guarantee you, an XBR will crush the PQ of a Spectre.


This is one of the silliest comparisons by the way. $700 vs $2100 TV. The price ratio there is like comparing a Kia to a BMW.

That comparision doesn't go far enough it's like comparing a Lamborgini to 1974 Pinto.

Well....I drive a BMW 7 series and I understand that it is better than a Honda Accord.....I'm asking if it is 3x better! I understand that the Sony is better, but why?

I don't know what it is I have to say to convince you that the XBR is worth it. Other than saying it is, go look at one in person.

I just bought the Sceptre 46" on sale from MicroCenter. In the store, I thought it looked just as good as a Sony monitor. Sure, the 120Hz TVs are smoother, but to be honest (and who knows, maybe it's just me trying to justify a cheaper set) I thought the 120Hz TVs were too smooth. Kinda unatural.


Anyways, it's a good TV. I haven't had much couch time with it yet, but I'm very happy I picked it up.

Hey Foley, in my opinion, no it's not worth 3 times more. But then again, I wouldn't spend the money on a 7 series either!

So I guess it's just a matter of where people like to indulge themselves. A lot of people around here (understandably) are A/V buffs and a number of them will throw dollars at the slightest improvements in PQ over competing models.


Back to your question though, if you're trying to fulfill a flat screen 'need' in as economical/efficient a manner as possible, I would say yeah consider the Spectre - read some reviews about it, and if it seems it's in line with your needs, there ya go.
