Is ther such thing as an in-expensive room analysis program

519 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Video
Is there such a thing as in in-expensive room anaylisis program that would allow me to run a software program on my PC, use a microphone to take measurements, and make adjustments to a graphic equalizer to get the best sound?

I read about a program on this site that allows adjustment to parametric equalizers, but is there anything out there that is simple?

Building a new room and want to get things set up well.

Thanks

Room EQ Wizard is as inexpensive as it gets...free
Yes, REW is amazing, and totally free. You'd have to spend several hundred dollars to find something that outclasses it, and for that you're doing threre will be no practical difference between is and more expensive programs. Download it, learn it, and donate to the creator!

REW is, indeed, a great program but, if you are only now building, you need to consider acoustics NOW and worry about EQ later. What you can do with design and materials is much more important than what you may do later with electronics.

Kal nailed this one....

There are freeware room mode and R/T 60 calculators. Use those before you start installing equipment
My room has been planned as well as I can on my own. Double walls, completely isolated walls and ceiling, concrete floor. Two layers of drywall with green glue in between. No outlets or lights penetrating the drywall. The next step for me is understanding the room acoustics and going from there. Where do I download the rome mode and R/T 60 calculators? Thanks

How do you find a way to a seat and power/cable the equipment?
no rough in boxes penetrating the drywall. All the wires fish though and then are caulked so the opportunity for sound to get through is minimal.

You did give me a thought....I should have sawed into the floor to bring the electrical in. That would have been sweet.
Alright, I found the room calculators but just looking at the spreadsheets give me brain freeze. I put in my room dimentions, but what the heck do I do with the information that it spit out?

Thanks
Since major construction is complete, your options are now to arrange the equipment, seating and acoustical treatment. There are, in addition to the room mode calculators, room modeling programs. See www.rivesaudio.com for an online version or look at purchasing CARA ( http://www.rhintek.com/cara/cara21desc.php ). Also, read the information at the Rives site and at www.realtraps.com .

Actually, the basic shell of the room is complete, that doesn't mean that a false wall can go in at the front of the theater. No risers or stage has been constructed yet.
