Is there a better Receiver than the Pioneer VSX-1015TX for the same price range?

1182 Views 13 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  sanjoseskater
I am wondering if there is a receiver out there with the same features or similar features within the same price range as the Pioneer VSX-1015TX ($400-500)?

These features are a must:

Component UpConversion,

7 amplified channels,

3 component inputs.

Thanks,

Derek

For the money this is a hard one to beat...which is why it is so popular.
I just purchased the 1015 to replace an older Onkyo, and so far I am very impressed. The features are many, the setup was simple, the power is ample, and the sound, thanks to the auto EQ, is very noticably better. At $412 delivered, from an authorized dealer, it can't be topped, IMO. Highly recommended!

Can you please PM me the authorized dealer.

Thanks,

Derek
The VSX-1016 with a bunch more features including HDMI and will be selling for the same price. Will be out next month.
That's a UK site, shipping would be rather expensive from there wouldn't it?
So.. in the UK the 1016 will be about $150 US equivalent more than the 1015 goes for currently in the UK. Not sure you could equate this though to what will be the difference in the US though.
If you want XM or HDMI then it might be wise to wait for the 1016. Since these features did not interest me I went for the older model, probably could have waited but when the bug bites I have to go for it!
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the new model will no longer have the mosfet transformers? That seemed to have been one of the big pros for this receiver, that it used the high quality amp section (borrowed from Pioneer's Elite line) while still being relatively cheap...?

What do you think about the Yamaha HTR-5960? It has 3 component switching. I'm about ot pull the trigger on one of these.

ok whats mosfet and why does it matter??
Metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosfet

BJT is the other type of amplifier transistor commonly used.
I'm actually selling my Elite VSX-35TX to get this receiver. I really like the Component Upconversion, auto calibration and 7 amplified channels (rather than 5). The few minor things I will miss on the 35TX are the extra switched AC outlet, phono input, multiroom, and the urushi finish.
