Hi! I am in the process of selling my 32 inch XBR400 set in order to step up to a larger front projection screen. Source will be a TiVo (digital cable) through S-video, and DVD through component (interlaced now Sony DVP-S7000, but assume progressive in your recomendations). Is there a used projector that will look good enough for me to enjoy? I am graduating college in two years, so it only has to last that long. Thanks!

I am biased, of course, but I'm using a Plus UP1100 which can be found in that price range and I feel offers a very nice image. Now I am also using a scaler, so I can't speak for what it would look like without. I don't think there are any DLP projectors in that range that will look good without some type of outboard processing, but maybe I'm wrong.

I hate to toot my own horn, but I have a Davis DL450 clone for sale in the Classifieds section on this board. I just graduated from university and this one did me well for the year I have owned it http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif Although with the Davis's most everyone on this board (including myself) recommends using it with a HTPC for DVD/Scaling with dTV (or getting a scaler which can output its native res).

We are beginning to see Infocus 340's (SVGA DLP) for around $2600. I expect these to fall to around $2K by the end of the year. They have excellent on-board scalers.

Infocus 425z and 400 machines can be had for under $2K.

Some Dreamvision and other Davis clones are beginning to be about $2k used. These need external scalers more than the Infocus models.

Try NEC LT84, NEC VT440, NEC LT100, NEC LT85, Plus UP1100, Plus UP880.

I've bought or seen all of these used for under $2K. Search here for pros and cons.

You can also buy a new Sharp PG-M10S for $1750. It doesn't take progressive but works very well with an iScan which you can get for $300 or so.

All of the above projectors in fact would benefit from an iScan.
