Hey guys. I am looking for a new hdtv to replace my 46" Hitachi rptv. I wanted to go with a 58"-63' plasma , but so far all the plasma's seem to have some kind of serious issue. Samsungs that band, panny's that have hand shaking issue with my onkyo sr 875. Lg's with bad black levels. I'm starting to think i should just keep my Hitachi. Any advise for a new set

how much money can you spend?

what do you most use it for?

What are your viewing room conditions?

room conditions can be whatever i want. I have 4 windown , but they are covered by heavy drapes which makes the room pretty dark even at noon. My gf calls my tv room a cave because it is always dark.

As far what i use it for. Some ps3 gaming, movies, and sports. Viewing distance is about 8'. As far as money goes i woild like to keep it under 2500. preferably around 2000. I was looking at the samsung 58b650($1725) or the panny 54g10(&1500) or lg 60sp80.($1800)
Love my 860...there is no perfect plasma (even Pioneer they aren't perfect either) nor LCD.
Nothing will be perfect. It sucks but it's the truth. I have a Panasonic, and for the most part I am pleased with the picture on this thing.
Heck I'm using a 50A450 Sammy and I love it. I am upgrading soon but I won't ever go away from plasma unless something comes along as cheap with a better picture. I don't see that happening any time soon.
Its so hard looking for a plasma. There are no dedicated av stores around here that I know of and when you go to the big chains they have them set to nuclear mode. This is starting to get very frustrating.

I have seen some very good internet prices on the panny 58 s1, but have not been able to see it in a true enviroment

I think you mean Samsung's that BUZZ, not BAND, but whatever. Panasonic's don't have any issues with widespread HDMI handshake problems, so I'd be willing to guess it's a problem with your receiver, and not the TV.

I have the Sammy 58" 860 with no bands and no buzz. No handshake issues with my Onkyo 805. I had the Hitachi and there is no comparison to a good 1080p display.
Sammy 58B650 in plaz. If LED/LCD then check out the LG 55LH90. Both sets rock for roughly the same coin.

If you wait on the 54V25 it might take some time to hit $2K. G25 will be sooner and you can approach your preferred size.
I just bought Samsung PN63B590. No buzz. The picture is much better than my old 57" Hitachi. Go for it.

If it's an early RPTV/HDTV it may well have handshake issues. Some of the early ones had essentially experimental HDMI support where it wasn't fully implemented properly. They were quite finicky and HDMI was unreliable, even from known good sources. Newer sets are now standardized and play nice with HDMI.

I got my decision down to 2 sets. Either the sammy 58b650 or the panny 58s1. The buzzing from the sammy doesnt bother me as i have about 15-20dbs of ambient noise anyway. Also from reading the onkyo hand shaking thread it looks as if Panasonic has released a firmware(1.25) patch to take care of this issue

The issue is i will be buying either one of these sets sight unseen as there is no one in my area that has any left. The panny is about 300.00 less than the b650.

Anybody seen these sets side by side and has an opinion on them.

Just wanted to edit: this is what I am currently watching. An 06' Hitachi 46F510 46" Projection TV

If you no for a fact that if you get a Samsung that buzzes that it won't be an issue, there should be no question. The Samsung has more features and MUCH better PQ than the S1. The S1 might have slightly better MEASURED black levels, but it is probably not noticeable to the normal untrained eye. Compare SD content on the Samsung to the same SD content on the Panny and you will be amazed at the difference.
chris you will never to this date find a tv that is flawless even your projection has its flaws in any case you have a budget of $2,500 get a pioneer and sit back forget the rest until oled is mainstream. bigger is always better at 8ft you will benefit for the 58+ but is that what you want over Picture quality?? both the the panny s and the samsung are nice but i would go with panasonic simply because its harder to get TIR on it but really that doesnt matter as its only temporarly and nothing to be concernd of, instead the picture quality between both sammy and panny is what you should be reading. also read those threads dedicated to those tvs see what flaws they have what is to be expected etc and if you like it or not.

The 58" B550 can be had for about $1,600 all over the place...and apparently you can turn it into a higher model through the service menu.

You can turn it into a 560, but that's hardly anything to write home about. The only feature it adds is Cinema Smooth, which has been found to be buggy anyways. The 650 is a better TV than the S1, so I would suggest to the OP that he gets the 650.
