Say I purchased BD from Amazon but didn't get around to watching it several months later. Then I find that disk won't play starting from 40min.

Can I exchange it by contacting the studio?

In reality I always open new discs and browse through chapters but this can still miss some defect in the middle.

I think officially you have 90 days but calling the studio won't hurt.

There are no warranties. Since this is an issue between the retailer and consumer, please contact the company you purchased the disc from. As others have suggested, it wouldn't hurt to contact the studio, but don't expect a resolution from them.

BR titles are no different than any other software you've purchased over the years. If there is an issue with the disc it's a retail issue. The only exceptions would be widespread issues with a particular pressing.....which usually comes to light within the first 30 days of the release.
