Hello, this must be a stupid question but is there anyway of converting normal TV/Cable signals into better qualitie?

Some kind of hardware/software/encoders that can improve regular tv image?

This is because I dont have HDTV where I live yet and regular TV is crap in Projectors and Big TV, maybe some PCI card could improve or encode image?

What are you outputting the TV signal to? Is it HDTV ready?

Yes, Im outputting to one Infocus 7200 projector with native resolution of 1280X720

There sure is. Buy a TV Tuner /Capture card, connect your TV to s-video input and use dScaler.

- yes, it will be on the fly.


- I haven't tried it with ATI cards, but I don't see why not. There are quite a few threads on this forum regarding ATI TV tuners. Also, dScaler forums should give you a lot of hardware compatibility answers.

Well, dScaler IS a miracle. Free app which helps you to get an excellent signal after $50 investment.


Perhaps we have different definitions of the miracle.

"average" TV Tuner / Capture card is about $50 give or take few $$$ (FlyVideo series etc.)


accessDTV does not need dScaler, it is HDTV Tuner / Capture card.


We are talking about NTSC / PAL interlaced TV signal.

dScaler is complicated and requires a lot of tweaking. I suggest going to dScaler forum and search AVS HTPC forum for useful info.


I've got very good results w/FlyVideo and dScaler, but it took a lot of time.

and tweaking.


Your mileage may vary, so don't just take my word, investigate.

Galileo, the AccessDtv card has an analog NTSC input doesn't it?? I may be mistaken but there is that option in the setup of it's software/hardware.

Yes, there is an NTSC tuner on accessDTV, but I've never tried to run it through dScaler, mostly because there is only RF in and no s-video. Also, there is no way to capture analog with accessDTV.


I might try it just for fun as soon as my wife removes Christmas tree from the top of the TV.
