The original Pronto that is being sold for around $100? As programmable as this remote is, I can't see anything that works better than a refurb Pronto. I am thinking of buying three of them to use in different zones. They will control 6 sources and have slightly different programming based on video equipment in each zone. Any better choice?

Thanks

If you prefer a touchscreen, then a refurb Pronto will give you the most bang for your buck. For a button remote, the One for All/Radio Shack JP1-able remotes are the best value for less than $50 including JP1 cable. Anything else will be more than $100.

I was a poster on remote central.com before I became an AVS addict.

I was around when the 1994 was "discovered" and have it an a 2116.

The JP1 was over my head then, and I am afraid that too much has passed to get caught up. Does anyone do coustom jp1 programing or setup for a fee??

dirk, you may want to try JP1 again. Everything is actually quite easy. Make or buy a cable, and the graphical configuration tool (IR) is pretty much plug in the remote and go.

If you can use a computer, I don't think a television remote is going to cause you trouble. :)

Where can I get some info into JP1?? I know the newsgroups are there, when I try and read through them I get frustrated with my lack of knowledge of the vocabluarly used there. Is there a beginners site?? :)

Well, I did a multi-zone house with 2 marantz 9200s. I like the color, the buttons, and the configurability. I put up an IR repeating system throughout the house. I have one upstairs and one downstairs. My wife can turn on a piece of equipment, anywhere in the house. That's my claim... before this remote... I was always called it for assistance with doing anything... even back when it was only 1 zone.

That said, anything is only as good as the programming... so if you don't want to take the time to do it right... it won't work.
