Is there any difference among SDI modifications??

I'm looking into SDI modifying a Denon 5900.

In reading many of these threads and searching the internet, I find the price varying quite a bit.

Is there any difference in the SDI module that is used??

There are differences, based on the chipset being used (Gennum, NEC, etc.) + the bus options (BT601 vs. BT656) and sync (for HD LEEZA support).

Make sure the mod you get is suited for your player, and if you have an HD LEEZA double check that the mod has been tested with it.
I suspect that anyone that I'd contact about the modification would say that theirs is just fine. You know, capitalism at its finest. lol. However, I don't want to be stuck in the position of having a modification that kinda works or issues with the service provider saying that its the scaler and vice versa.

Since I'm wanting to do this on a Denon 5900 with a Sony Grand Wega TV, and probably a DVDO Iscan HD+, do you have any suggestions.
JimP,

I had my 5900 upgraded to SDI by JVB Digital, I believe that they use the Gennum chip set. Their turnaround was excellent, 1 day!

I am using the iScan HD and there were absolutely no problems. The improvement in picture quality after I had pixel mapped the HD to my projector were very considerable. In my opinion, worth every penny and there was NO macroblocking!

I was going to wait to see what the 5910 had in store, but as the audio quality of the 5900 was so excellent when coupled using DL2/3 to my 5803A, I could not see how Denon could do anything that would better this performance or equal the performance of an external SDI scaler.

Paul,

I agree about the audio quality of the 5900. So much so, that I don't really want to take a chance on another player and be disappointed.

How are you connected to your projector? DVI?

How is the Gennum chipset relative to the others available?
JimP,

Without doubt the 5900, at its price, is one of the finest DVD/CD players that I have ever auditioned.

I am using RGBHV as my projector does not have DVI. I am waiting until next year to upgrade to DVI to see what resolutions, scan rates and technologies become cost effective, in particular either SXRD or DLP.

I work in the engineering side of the TV broadcast industry and several of my vendors use this same chip set. I cannot really comment on this chip set over any others I have not had cause to compare them.
