Is there anything gained with a 1080P panel if best source is 720P?

If I buy a 1080P panel and my highest resolution source going into the panel is 720P, do I gain anything in terms of clarity of the images on the screen?

No screen door effect when you sit real close.

That's it.
Thanks. Do you know if the Pioneer 5070 suffer from screen door effect if you are real close?
How close are you planning on sitting? I sit at 7-8 feet and see absolutely no SDE with my 5070

I have sat as close as ~5-6ft to mine and don't see a screen door effect...but that is not to say that the next person who comes along will see the same thing

Depending on how close, it takes me about 4-5 feet to really notice any Screen Door Effect. Do not worry about resolution at this size. I have gone the 1080p route and came back less than impressed after now choosing the Pio 768p plasma.

Only reason to wait is for the newer Pioneers coming out which apparently have a contrast jump that is more than just spectacular. 1080p resolution at a hefty premium can take a hike as far as I am concerned. It's just not necessary for regular viewing distances... nor is it that big of a bonus.

Our normal seating area is about 15-16 feet back but often I'm on the floor with our children playing with them and watching, which puts me about 5-6 feet back from the screen.
Any TV (LCD, Plasma, DLP...) suffers from some level of SDE if you are close enough. pixel density (resolution), display type (LCD vs plasma), etc can shorten the distance for SDE, but if you are "real close" to any TV, you will see SDE.
