I've decided to upgrade my Infocus IN72 for something a bit more modern.

And ended up getting a new Epson 8350. So far have not be fully satisfied.

The picture appears slightly out of focus I think, I can notice it clearly on subtitles in movies or text in games.

Here are two images:

There is a faint blue shadow around everything.

Is this an lcd convergence issue or lens chromatic abberation?

I was about to ship back the projector and find a DLP one to not deal with any convergence issues.

chromatic aberration is the shift of one or more colors towards one direction in one part of the screen. CA tends to change directions if you look at the opposite section of the picture (e.g. if theres a shift to the left on the left side of the picture, its probably a right shift on the right side of the picture as well, or a not as strong shift compared to the left)

You described that its everywhere and around all letters (its kinda hard to judge from the screens, as color bleeding can be introduced by cameras as well), though to me it looks like there is a shift of blue towards the top. though, the pictures you have taken seem to be uniform in colorshift (blue always a little bit towards the top), so id say its a light lcd convergence and not just CA.

try getting in the service menu and shift the blue lcd by one or two pixel (= subpixel) towards the bottom, if there is an option like that.

P.S. I just got my first projector and stuff, so i can as easily be wrong about that!

Yea, there is no panel adjustment settings in the menus on the 8350. Need to send back to Epson for that. And they ship a random refurb that may or may not be any better.

Not too thrilled about this so I'll just get a refund where I purchased it and buy a DLP model.

The pictures in the above post are pretty much how I see the blue.

If you want perfection you are going to have to spend more. 8350 is a budget projector that's going on 4 years old.

I'm not very familiar with dlp anymore. Why not go lcos and look at the avs bstock sale? I'm sure with a 2500 dollar budget you can get do much better than the 8350 you returned though.
