I'm primarily buying this system for music, although I will also play movies and TV. I want the highest quality sound I can possibly get for the money.

My entire music collection is stored on an external HDD with mostly 256+ MP3 and some FLACs. I have an HP laptop with HDMI out that I currently have hooked up to a 37" Vizio LED TV. I use a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Onkyo TX-NR509 Receiver ($250)

2 Polk RTi4 Speakers - front ($150)

2 Small Cambridge Soundworks bookshelfs (not sure the model) - rear (already own)

Polk PSW10 Sub ($100)

HDMI laptop to receiver

HDMI receiver to TV

14-gauge wire to speakers and sub

Any suggestions for improvement or does this sound pretty good? Am I losing any sound quality with this setup?

Any tips for wiring that I should know to get the best quality sound for music?

Thanks in advance.

Have you paid any attention to acoustical room treatments? If not, why not? As what you're listening to is roughtly 50% equipment and 50% room related, you're missing a HUGE system improvement by not treating the room. You can build stuff yourself to save on costs and end up over engineering things beyond the specs of mass produced stuff. Just my $0.02. Good luck.
