Apologies if this has already been addressed, but the device at this site provides conversion from DVI/HDCP to component or RGB. Could it be used to prevent the "obsolecence" of current TVs, or would it legally have to down-rez HD material to the analog outputs in order to be in compliance with HDCP? Also, I don't know how much this device costs, it looks like it could be pretty pricey.

No, this will not circumvent HDCP schemes. They are a licensee of this format and as such are not allowed to attempt to disable the Copy Protection function.

There has been some discussion of the CS1 and CS2 in regards to HDCP in the video processors forum. I remember a statement from the company specifically addressing the HDCP issue. This won't be a workaround. My guess is any device that can defeat HDCP will be an underground effort.

But, I am willing to pledge $$$ right now to anyone who thinks they could develop such a device.
