I currently have a 2 12" P3 Rockford Fosgates in my trunk of the car, and the amp a certain retailer told me that would work wont even power them both. So instead of buying another amp, I feel like removing one of them and using it as a DIY sub.

Size 12"

Impedance 2-Ohm x 2

Power Handling 500 RMS

1000 Max

Sensitivity 87 dB

Motor Size 102 oz. double stacked

Voice Coil Diameter 2.5" aluminum

Speaker Connector Dual 8 AWG compression

Mounting Depth 6.375"

Rec. Sealed Enclosure 0.75 cu. ft.

21.24 liters

Rec. Vented Enclosure 1.75 cu. ft. (49.56 liters)

Tuning Frequency (vented) 37 Hz

Shipping Weight 25.2 Lbs.

(11.4 Kg.)

I believe i have the 4ohm versions, information provided from RF website because i know some people dont like clicking links

Anyways, I know the sub hits very hard, and I am just wondering, is this option feasible? Can the driver work just like the drivers you guys use, I see alot of atlas? i believe.

Thanks

It could work, but not in the frequency range below 20hz. It'll be a music only sub in home, and even then there will probably be alot of distortion.. (compared to the TCsounds drivers) and you'll probably have peaks in the 40-50hz range/

You could certainly do it, and as long as you don't expect much from it, you'll be pleased. By that I mean don't expect earth shattering bass from a 12" driver with ~12mm of xmax. If you just want something to add some bass to your music listening or light HT use, I don't see why you couldn't roll with it.

The A350-Basic here would be a good match. A medium-small ported box, with 4inch port, and you'd be good to go.

You want a good inexpensive driver,TC Sounds dB 500 12" is just that, inexpensive and would be a great starter.

Parts Express have the Dayton Titanic III 15" on sale right now, good for vented boxes.

The flashy bling bling car woofers are best left for those who want boom boom in cars.

You shouldn't look at this from a 'watts' perspective like so many car audio guys seem to do.

350W with that driver would be enough. It was just a suggestion, you could easily go for more or less.

But yeah, by all means spend more (or I guess some to begin with) and actually get a quality driver.

eh its nothing fancy, just mad that i cannot use them in the car.

Is there a driver review site orr something that can help me out. It sseems that alot of these forums, save the PJ's under 3kmsrp forum people talk about $$$ stuff.

Eventually i want to build all of the speakers, 5.1 as i dont see a point to 7.1 right now being in an apartment (speaker placement in a living room)

No review site because each driver performs best in a different enclosure. What works great for me may not work for you. Your best bet is to read and then read some more. Everything about building a sub has been covered here. From picking a driver to building the box, all of the info is here.

Even though I said there wasn't a list of drivers, there is a pretty consistant list of manufacturers that we buy from.

TC Sounds (my favorite)

Soundsplinter (built by TC Sounds)

Fi Car Audio

Dayton by Parts Express (best bang for the budget minded)

Subduction series from CSS

Elemental Designs

There are also some discontinued models that will pop up for sale:

Ascendant Audio (Avalanche and Atlas series)

Adire Audio

Elemental Designs (flat cone series built by TC Sounds)

Blueprint

Entasi

Finally, there's some prototypes that have floated around the forums and ebay. There's currently some Eclipse/TC Sounds monster subs for sale ebay right now.

Not that I know of. You can ask around here for tips people are in general happy to help a fellow DIYer.

Drivers(tweeters,mid-bass) from Dayton for example are very high quality and low cost, great to build speakers, the DVC are good low cost sub woofers and the Titanic III a solid choice when on special.
