Is this possible? Dish+Comcast

I want to add more HD stations to my dishnet 811. Comcast has a package. Can I run my Comcast out either right out of the wall of from the Comcast STB to my Dishnet 811 (OTA) IN and then scan for digital on my 811?

To add a bit to the answer, the Dish 811 will receive both Dish HD programming and over-the-air Digital TV. It will not receive cable HD, which is modulated differently (QAM) for more efficient use of cable bandwidth.

If you already have an HDTV with a QAM tuner, you could connect the Comcast coax cable into the HDTV to get local HD programming.

If you already have an HDTV with a CableCARD tuner, you could connect the Comcast coax cable into the HDTV to get local HD programming, other digital tier programming (ESPN HD, INHD, etc.), and premium HD (HBO, Showtime, etc.) that you subscribe to.

Otherwise, Comcast charges $5 per month for their HD receiver rental, in addition to whatever programming package you subscribe to.
A question for you, Ken. I have Comcast (Olathe, KS) and a Philips 42" HDTV that can receive the digital channels. However, I do not have the CableCard installed - but I still can receive the four network HDTV local channels, one Encore movie channel and ToonDisney. The remaining digital channels are black.

Is there a setting that I can use on the TV to receive the other digital channels without having to subscribe to the digital tier and having to install a CableCard? Thanks.

Nope.

Unless Comcast makes a mistake, the only HD channels in the clear are HD locals. If you want the digital tier HD channels and/or premium HD, you can either get the CableCARD or rent the Comcast STB.

The whole idea of a CableCARD is to grant access without a STB, but in either case you need to subscribe to the channels to receive them. In the case of HD locals, they come with all Comcast cable packages, even the least expensive 'Limited Basic'.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I don't have a built in tuner in my Tosh so I would need the comcast STB? I suppose I could just use the Comcast STB for locals through another input into my Tosh. It would require switching inputs/stb though just to watch locals. Seems kinda of screwy to me.

I theatened Dish to cancel about my locals in HD. They are sending someone out at no charge to try and hook up my CM 4228. Antenna web says it's going to be difficult if not impossible.

I sure hate to loose Disc HD and hdnet just to watch football in HD. Oh and another remote control to add to my growing collection :).

Where are you located?
I face north with only a littel window for my dish to hit 110 and 119. All the towers are near due south, I can't get a clear line of site south but maybe southwest.
