Hey everybody,


I'm trying to figure out what all I'm going to need cable wise for a set up in my apartment. I just got a Vizio VW32LHDTV10A for Christmas. I'm planning on getting a Sony DVP-NS700H/B upconverting DVD player, and the Onkyo HTS4100 5.1 HTIB.


The TV says it has a 5.1 SPDIF Digital Optical Audio output and 2 HDMI with HDCP inputs.


Since the 4100 doesn't have hdmi ports, would my setup look like this (for 5.1 surround sound)?


DVD Player --- HDMI --- TV

TV --- Optical Toslink cable --- receiver


If anybody could clear this up for me I'd really appreciate it! Thanks

Best would be

DVD>HDMI>TV

DVD>Optical>Receiver


There's no need to send the dvd audio to the tv and then to the receiver

In fact, sending audio through the TV might get it downmixed to stereo. Direct from player to receiver keeps the 5.1 info intact.

Well.. Does anyone have a recommendation for the kind of HDMI and optical cables I should buy on monoprice? There seem to be a lot of them..
