Is this TV actually ED or HD?

Harsper HP-4200VPM

I recently bought this TV due to the low price and great specs - it is on its way and I need to decide if I shoukd upgrade my Adelphia digital cable service to HD...any idea if the HD picture quality will actually be worth it on this screen? or should I just stick with my standard digital cable box...?

852x480 = EDTV , yours that is.

Most broadcasters in America aren't that good anyway... so, 852x480 would do nice. If you are in Japan and want to watch some cutting-edge HD channels like "Wowow" or "BShi" then yeah... HDTV would be required.

Also if you're planning to watch a lot of HD-DVD movies, then yea.. HDTV is what you want.

hmm okay. I'm not sure I 100% understand your response. So yes, this TV is ED, thank you for answering that. BUT, because this is ED is it still beneficial to get the HD service? Will I notice that much of a difference vs. my standbard digital box?

At very least youll get 16:9 shows to fit nicely on your 16:9 TV. Also 1080i should scale down very nicely to a 480p set, so Id say yea, HD will help.

Yes, HD will be nice, if only for the widescreen format that will fill your screen. HD programs will also probably look better than SD counterparts anyway.

Yes.

EDTVs "can" handle High Def. It will certainly have image improvement over SD video. The TV panels are able to upscale. But since many HD broadcasters will "compress" their video signal hell out, anyway..

Spec: HDTV Compatible Yes HDTV-compatible means that the TV can receive a HD-signal(720p/1080i) and display it, but not with the highest HD-quality.

Even though it is an EDTV these TVs can accept 1080i(interlaced). Higher definion videos can be scaled to fit on your screen, resulting in better picture quality than viewing SD digital which is at around 640x480~720x480.

but still..... it also depends on the personal preference...
