iScan HD SDI with Denon 3800 SDI

1143 Views 25 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Jasonjo
Hi,

I have just had my Denon DVD-3800 SDI modded and added the SDI board to my HD. I use a Panny PWD6 plasma.

However, when using the SDI input I am getting some strange effects. It looks like bottom half of the picture jumps up a few pixels or so. It happens now and again and looks like the bottom of the screen is flicking upwards. It is much easier to see it happening with 2.35:1 films due to the black bars. Every now and again, this jump is accompanied by a white vertical bar on the left hand side about 1" by 10" or so, this only apears quickly in a flashing way.

Has anyone seen this type of thing before?

The SDI modder says that the player is fine on Lumagen or Crystalio scalers so it looks like it may be an Iscan HD thing...

Any ideas appreaciated...

Cheers

Use the SDI Line offset feature on the IScan-HD, you may have to reduce the setting, but beware, use it sparingly.
Hi,

I thought the line offset just shifted the image?

Can you explain a little more?

Cheers

P.S. Offset makes no difference...

Tried pretty much every option in the menus...still no luck!!!

Either a faulty SDI board/HD or a compatibility issue :(

Jasonjo - Give us a call, we can issue you an RMA for the SDI board and send you out a replacment.

By the way, who did the SDI mod?
Josh,

Thanks for the reply...

Do you think it is a fault on the SDI board then?

I am based in the UK, so will I have to go through Owl Video for this RMA?

SDI mod was done by a reputable UK dealer from one of the uk AV forums. The mod seemed fine with Lumagen and Crystalio hence the thought that it was the HD causing problems...

Thanks again...

Jasonjo - Since you are in the UK, you should handle this through Owl Video. I sent Peter an email already so he should be expecting your email/call. If you have any problems, please let me know.

Based on what you describe, I do think it is the SDI input module in the iScan HD causing these issues.
Cheers Josh.

I will get my reseller to sort this out with Owl tomorrow - hope the new board sorts it out!! :)

Hi Josh

I did the SDI mod for Jason, i believe we met in Vegas at CES for the AVS breakfast at Paris? I was with Gordon, although i could be wrong

Does the fault Jason is experiencing sound familiar? as we have been racking our brains as the mod ran fine with our test Lumagen?

All the best

Hello Elliot - I remember you, you were sitting diagonally across from me and next to Jim Peterson of Lumagen.

I have personally seen one of these boards, it was actually the first one that I got for my own HD+. I went crazy trying to figure out what was causing the problem, especially because I was also Alpha testing software at the same time.
The iScan HD is much more strict in SDI inputs than other boxes I've tested. Could the problem be in the "floating" SDI signal (i.e., there's a setting where the SDI can reequalize for a cable). The Lumagen scalers have an option of turning reequalization on and off.

Can the same be done for the iScan HD/HD+ - it might resolve the issue.

Great memory Josh :) and what a great breakfast it was!

Glad that you have seent he issue before, hopefully Owl will get this sorted quickly for Jason. :D
Elliot,

We were only like 10 people there, weren't we? Plus, you have a memorable face ;)

I'm sorry to have gotten there late, by the way, it was a bit depressing having had to eat after everyone had already left...
LOL memorable face, thanks Ofer :D

Maybe next year we can double the numbers
Josh,

Picking up replacement SDI board tomorrow - let you know if it solves the problem...

Thanks again with the RMA.

Josh

I too live in the uk and I am also experiencing similar problems but worse,

I have a sky digital (satellite) box moded with SDI out feeding an IScanHD+ (567i) some programs are fine but others jump and judder really badly, adverts in between programs are interesting, one advert will show fine, and the next will be unwatchable, I dont understand why some work and others dont as it is all 576i material. any ideas?
Bad news josh, new SDI board made no difference. Will try and get Owl to swap the HD unit itself.

Any other ideas?

JJ
is it possible there is a bug in the SDI software when passing 576i ? (I'm using HDP-5.6-2.32)
I'm using a hd with v1.42

Chris - who did your mod? is it a PMS one or custom?

JJ
what is PMS?.

the SDI kit was ordered by my Iscan dealer from OWL and I fitted it my self.

the sky box was bought new & modded from pluggedin.tv with 3m van-damme sdi cable
