From what I've read it will, but not by much. It's the fact that providers are overcompressing their signals that's really the problem (and that's hard to fix after the fact).
Depending on the HDTV you have, it make more sense to spend the $ and get a HD STB and let it do the line doubling of the non-HD channels. This might get you a better picture for SD sat. channels (compared to what you are viewing now) and will also get you OTA and sat. HD tuner.
