I'm sending an upconverted signal (dvd resolution to 1080p) from a yamaha s1800 dvd player or a panasonic dmp-bd60 blu-ray player into a panasonic tc-p46s1 via hdmi. From both sources the right edge of the screen has a black stripe before the image starts and the right image edge has a thin stripe of color artifacts. The issue is more pronounced with the yamaha. This is on Size setting of 2 (i.e., no overscan) on the S1. This doesn't happen when sending a blu-ray 1080p signal from the BD60.

My question: is this due to the unit providing the source signal or due to how the S1 handles the signal? In other words, will a different dvd upconverter give different (hopefully better) results or is this a S1 problem. If it is S1 related, any ideas on a fix.

Thanks in advance.

Iam also have a similar problem. The right edge of the screen has a black stripe before the image starts (screen is on Full). The image is coming from a 480p Satellite dish and Iam running the cables to the Yahama receiver and then the output to the TV is via a HDMI cable. I don't have to switch the TV to Zoom mode. Any one has any thoughts.

it happens on all the dvds I've tried so far -- but to a varying degree, some more some less.

On something like Criterion's Roma Citta Aperta, there is nothing (but that is letterboxed intentionally by Criterion in addition to being 1.33:1) while a 4:3 dvd from their Eclipse series does it more. BBC's Blue Planet (dvd) does it too, though much less on the BD60 player.

I believe this is just a result of the 0% overscan. I have this issue with my G10 when upconverting DVDs on a PS3. In THX mode (which is locked to HD size 2) I will get striped going up the left and right sides on most DVDs. If it bothers me enough I just switch to standard or custom mode where I can switch to HD size 1 and call it a day.
