the thing that makes it hard to take the leap, is you here nothing but issues in here about HDTVs... Problems with the picture, the black levels, the color wheel, the bulb, the settings, the dvd players, the providers signals, etc.etc.etc... if seems to go on and on and on in here. It's like you spend so much time trying to create the perfect electronic scenario that you never get to enjoy the damn thing.

Why do people seem to have so much trouble with the DLP HDTVs? Is it too high of PQ expectations? Is it because the technology is newer and S happens? What's the problem? I just find it funny how we've all owned analog TVs at one point for years... and most of us have had no service calls or problems on these TVs ever, i know I haven't. So why do the HDTVs seem to be such a problem for people.

Reading this forum will give you a very misleading picture. I bought a Samsung 56" DLP last August, and absolutely love it. I'm glad I took the plunge since I have been enjoying HD for the past 10 months now. Sports is incredible, and I got to see my favorite football team win the Superbowl in HD. Don't forget that people here are more informed than the average consumer (and more fussy). Plus, only those with a problem tend to post (those with no problems are far less likely to post). Out of the hundreds of thousands of DLPs and LCDs sold, count how many negative posts there are (not really that many). All my friends who have seen the TV think it looks incredible. My advice is take the plunge (yes, no TV is perfect, but they are damn good right now). By the way, I did have a problem with my old RCA 35" analog TV that I bought 10 years ago (it cut off the sides of the picture), so the old TVs were not perfect either.

Sorta like saying my old beetle never had a problem but these new 160mph high tech audis with everything including heated/cooling seats and gps nav seem to have all sorts of issues. My old beetle was also loud, smelly and slow and safety feature free. Technology IS complex and

these awesome hd recievers are still somewhat new compared to 50 year old analog tech. All in all it's quite impressive how far hd tech has come in a few short years. You need to think of todays digital receivers more as computer technology ...moving very fast and bringing along it's share of bugs - but overall very impressive and with prices that are dropping quickly.

If they made a 56" HD tube TV, that weighed 100 lbs. and was 17" deep, I would buy one in a second. Unfortunately, a tube tv that size would probably weigh 600 lbs and would be 4' deep. To go big, they had to change the technology. I also had two tube TV's that had problems.
