Obligatory backstory: I just graduated from University (can you tell I'm Canadian yet?), got a job, and bought a house. I have been stressing over buying a receiver for a couple weeks now, listening to endless debates on the futureproof receiver, whether hdmi 1.3 is necessary, why this DAC is superior to that DAC and I just realized I do not care anymore. Comparing specs and reading threads is going to make my head explode. I've realized that spending over $1000 on a receiver for these "gotta have it" features is not only totally unnecessary, but not feasible in my current financial situation.
Quandry: I want a decent surround receiver to run my older Energy bookshelves for now, and that I can build on and add speakers as the budget allows. I have no brand preference because the bottom line is most manufacturers have their **** together these days, I don't care about HDMI, I don't care whether it is Internet Direct or from a big box store and my only stipulation is I want to spend around $300 cdn.
