This has been somewhat mentioned but now that it is official I am curious to see what will happen with the MSRP on the 1080P Pioneer units. If I had to guess I would say Pioneer will be done within 2 months with non 1080P units (in terms of availability)

The 1080p units are going to drop. They have to as the projected cost of the 5020 this summer is $3500.

I think I'm going to hear some static on this one.

any speculation on 5010 pricing? if it's anywhere near what I paid for my 5080i'll return it this weekend just because

D-NICE MSRP right

I wondered the same thing... if MSRP that lines up with the 30% drop in MSRP he predicted for the 9G's (from the 8G's) a few months back.

No longer manufactured. So what Pioneer has out there with the stores etc is it. Please everyone lets not get this thread shut down by talking other than MSRP

As an example.... the Best Buy wherehouse I have been in contact with (regarding a 5080HD exchange) told me that they were getting their last shipment of 5080's in early Feb. He showed no 5080 shipments to his wherehouse scheduled after that.

Hey Roman,

You probably right. Everything is going to 1080p. Now the argument between 768p and 1080p will be muted, but not until 1440p becomes available.

Hey Roman; any insight as to whether Pio will be filling that 42" spot with another plasma display. I read a statement from a representative of Pioneer that if they do in fact bring out an LCD it would more than likely be in the 32" range.... so I would think they would still need a display in that 42" range??

They told me no more 42" plasma.

I just wasn't sure of how much of the economics / supply and demand thing factors into the HDTV world as I'm new to this. Thanks for the reply.

No worries
I am just guessing as there will be limited QTY's and I would not do anything if I was them.

Nothing in the 42" range eh...... hmmmm ... can't believe 50" will be the smallest pdp they will offer , could it be maybe we will see something around the 46" size, that would be sweet
Is Pio still suppose to announce the new lineup this month?

Sounds like everything they are doing is to get costs down in the segments they want to focus on. Eliminating 768p 50's and 42's enables them to make 50/60" 1080p's at a lower cost. But hopefully we will learn shortly what Pio has planned for 9G.

Oh man, and the 4280 is such a nice TV. If stores get desperate and end up

selling them for $1200 or less... my visa is going to hate me even more! I

guess it's not economical to make a 42 inch plasma, especially at the prices

that 42 inch LCD's are heading. I'm already seeing 50 inch Panasonic plasmas

nearing the $1500 mark here in Canada (a few hundred off)... which is NUTS!
