My JL W3 came in a 1.5 slot ported box. It sounded good but extension seemed lax. I plan to build a size no object cylinder to get the most out of the driver. I am wondering if port noise will be a risk with a 20hz tune?. WinIsd defaults with a 4" port. Will a larger diameter port help reduce huffing or noise?. The alignments I am considering are attached below. Any thoughts are appreciated.

input the power that you intend to use, then check air velocity.

increase the port diameter until air velocity is in the ballpark of 17 m/s.

that should be a good starting point.

From what I understand, those JL drivers are supposed to be really good.

I often have wondered how they hold up to the TC Sounds offerings....in fact, I wouldnt be suprised if the JL could beat the TC in some areas.

Indeed the JL is very good. I recently picked up Image Dynamics IDMAX 12s and put them in sealed enclosures. They are unbelievable. They are superior to the JL. They play deeper and play at high SPL with modest power. Excellent driver.
