"Writer director Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK, HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE), brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis as JoJo) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his blind nationalism.

In Theaters October 18, 2019 "

I had a coworker/friend remark today that JoJo Rabbit is the best movie he has seen this year! He kept on shaking his head trying to emphasize how much he liked it while exclaiming, "Oh my God!"

I'm deciding whether to see it. Absolutely despised "Life is Beautiful" but I think this is something else and I really like Waititi's stuff.
Well saw it and I have to give it a mixed review basically landing on the "okay" rather than the despised Life is Beautiful.

The problem with these movies is the attempt to make something farcically funny when there are horrible things happening. I'm not sure that it is possible to pull this off unless you are a comic genius like Charlie Chaplin, Mel Brooks or early Woody Allen. Otherwise it just feels very strange when these shifts occur from funny to tragic.

If you are interested, here is a review that represents my thoughts:

Run, run now.
Watched this on a flight, wasn’t aware it existed previously, and LOVED it.

A dark comedy with a heart of gold along the lines of Death to Smoochy.
