Hey there all,

I just bought an MX-3000 last night. I had bought a Harmony 1000 Last week and though I like it, I really just wanted more customizability... So I picked up an MX-3000 from my local best buy last night. Got it home and started programming. The only CD it came with is full of PDF's and I had to DL the programming software from UTC. This is the crippled software that can't be updated and has a rediculously small database built in.

Can someone PLEASE send me the Updateable version?

This is rediculous. They are obviously authorized sellers, I should be able to get the latest version of the software...

Thanks in advance.

Did you try going to the URC website and inputting your serial number. The site then allows you download the full version of the latest software. I have done it seveal times.

If BB won't give you the 'updateable' software, then they're not selling you a fully functional remote. I would, therefore, take it back for a refund, and then purchase it from a dealer (like Surfremote.com) who WILL give it to you (and who will, by the way, discount the remote substantially).

I'd have to second that. There are a bunch of posts here about URCs software policies but if you buy from an authorized dealer you're above it all and don't need to be concerned with the BS. If Best Buy does not want to give you the software and service that an authorized dealer is supposed to you're better off getting the remote elsewhere. It would really suck to get the software you need today only to have it crippled again if URC comes up with an even more secure system. Especially since BB is supposed to be an auth reseller and they probably charged you top dollar for the remote. Just my $.02

I have trouble with all the SOB stories here.

Do a search on this forum?

There are a couple of members who illegally providet the software.

You can illegally acquire it from them and then illegally update your IR database illegally for that one product which needs more than the generic IR code set.

Of course, illegal is up for debate and AVS does not endorse those illegallly providing the software.

Even the term "illegal" and how I used it can be debated, but everyone does understand that URC is full of it and is trying to screw everyone.

Yes, i did enter my serial number and download the software from URC thats how i have the software i am using now. The software from the URC website does not allow for live update....

ThomasV555 I am not giving a SOB story or trying to do anything illegal. I purchased from an autherized dealer and still have the crippled software... Sorry if i dont want the crippled software and would like the most updated version.

I concur 100%. Save several hundred $ and get the real software from surfremote.

It may not be quite a cheap as some other unauthorized sources, but it sure will be much cheaper than BB.

Curious what you guys are talking about. I go to surfremote.com and the MX-3000 list on his site for $1099 with the MRF-250. That is the same price BB offers the remote. How do I get this "discount" of several hundred dollars?

All authorized dealers quote the list price. CALL THEM for the discount.

I have heard that there are various versions of the software.

Some describe the software where you input a serial number and then it allows a download of the latest version.

Others say that this will get you the latest software, but will not support "Live Update" which keeps the software up to date.

Finally, there are versions that do not ask for a Serial Number and also do not allow Live Update.

Does anyone have Version Numbers that can be used to separate the versions that have Live Update or ask for Serial Numbers.

I have version 120.154 and an older version. I hear that the one with Serial Number input is the version that would be the best one.

Go to this page .

Directly above the price you quoted there is a link that says, "Can I get a lower price?"

There are two versions of the software. The only difference between the two is that the "Live Update" feature only works on one of them. The version that you can get directly from URC's website requires that you enter your serial number on the website to download it. It's "Live Update" feature is disabled. However, it was recently updated and should have the same IR database as the updateable version. The current version is .154 as you mentioned and the current IR database is 1.81.

If you don't see your exact model number in the database, simply use a higher model number (if available), or one that's close. If your brand isn't in there, check for files on remotecentral.com. You can use any other MX file, as welll as Pronto .ccf files with the Universal Browser. You can also download a programming manual there.

I understand the convenience of the database, but you can also learn buttons from any remote (except the darn PS3 BT one!)...or am I missing something?

I have had the 3000 for quite a while and find it very quick to set up a page of buttons and run through the automated learning feature (it learns and automatically goes to the next button to learn).
