Just got a Hitachi 36udx10s, but the text in video games is weird, SVM causing it?

My hitachi 36udx10s 36" HDTV was delivered today. I purchased it due to the fact that I'm a big gamer, and most games are still 4:3, and this TV supports 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. However, in games, the text looks funky, and sometimes it seems like motion in games is weird as well. I've heard that SVM can cause the former, can it be disabled at all? There's music, movie, and tv modes for video, will that change it at all? Also, is there a service menu?
