Just Got the Toshiba HD-A1 Wow

1383 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  alfbinet
Was in Best Buy yesterday to get a router for my PC. Out of curiosity went to check to see if they had a display for the A1, they did. Noticed that there was one box under the display. Turned out to be an "open box". I grabbed it. Hook up was very easy. Purchased Jarhead and Apollo 13. They look great to me! I am watching on a Mits 52628 DLP and sound from a Denon 3806. Very impressed. Load times are a bit slugish but not too much so.

Great picture and sound.

That's the TV I have, I'll probably get a HD-A1 as soon as I can work it into the budget. Any issue with lip-synch? I have some with my current setup (Panny 77S) but that player allows me to play with the delay. I can't tell that the HD-A1 lets you change the video to audio delay.

I haven't played with it yet. I just set it up via HDMI direct to Mits TV and Coax from the player to my Denon 3806. I watched both Jarhead and Apollo 13 last night without any problems. No lip synch issues. The video was stunning on both! My receiver output a DTS Surround track which really put my speakers through their paces. After owning it for two days I am very happy! Checked out 2 of my SD DVDs and was impressed with the upconvert. I have a very expensive Denon 3910 ($1200) and I think the Tosh upconvert is even better than the Denon, and I do love my Denon!

Thanks for the info... that's exactly how I was planning to hook it up, it's nice to hear from someone with the same TV that they aren't having issues. I have a different receiver but I wouldn't expect that to cause a problem.

I think you should connect the player to 3806 via HDMI, then you can enjoy the full glory of DD+. Otherwise you are just listening to legacy sound formats.

At the moment I have used up all my HDMI inputs into the 3806 (dang they should at least give you three!). Currently have the Denon 3910 DVD and Dish ViP 211 HD sat box running into the Denon HDMIs In and running HDMI Monitor out from 3806 to Mits HDMI In 1.

Any suggestions on HDMI switch? I checked with Rat Shack and they know what they are but they don't carry them yet. I would need something that is HDCP compliant. I have been fortunate that my Mits 52628, Denon AVR-3806 receiver, Denon 3910 DVD, Dish ViP 211 HD sat receiver, and now the Tosh A1 all seem to play well together. No HDMI error messages.
There is a thread on the HDTV Reception Hardware forum for the monoprice.com(a forum sponsor) HDMI switch. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=640183
Just got my HDA1 last night. I hooked it up this afternoon and tried it out on my 73" Mit HDTV. Apollo 13 looked fantastic! Component only so I will try my AE700 later and can't wait to see how it upconverts SD DVD.

Watching the Revenge of the Sith (Sd) on the A1. No complaints here! I will give it a few more weeks but my 3910 may go on eBay.
