Just got Toshiba white line issue fixed!

Just got the Toshiba "white line issue" fixed on my 51HX93 fixed, 7 weeks after first calling my local repair shop. For those who don't know, this is a thin white line that runs up and down the center of the set on, visable on hockey games and bright snow and bright cloud sceens.

The repairman had to dissemble the entire front of the set to get to the board. Actually installing the jumper wire took only a minute. Taking the set apart and putting in back together took an hour and was painful for me to watch. It was like watching surgery on a loved one.

The problem seems to be about 80% fixed. I will have to watch a hockey game to see for sure. But on the beginning of the DVD of FARGO the white line is almost completely gone. The issue was never a big concern for movies, just hockey games. The issue effects most or all the CRT based sets that end in 83 or 93. From the 46H83 through 65H83, through the 51HX93 through 65HX93, etc.

My suggestion is don't bother getting it fixed unless it really bugs you.

I was really on the fence about getting this done to my 57HX93 in that the line was very dim and not readily noticable, but it did show up sporadically. Based on the way the set needs to be disassembled, I was holding off, but I went ahead and did have it done before my set was recently ISF calibrated.

I thought the effect was pretty remarkable. I realize now just how much I really was noticing it by how I now never notice it. Last night for example, I watched one of Warren Miller's skiing documentaries on INHD, and never even thought about the line once, it just wasn't there. That programming content, lots of bright white snow covered slopes and plenty of horizontal panning, would have made it pop right out before

Be advised, as inky blacks has noted, the procedure is not pretty to watch, but is essentially pretty straightforward. Remove the front and back from the TV, disconnect a couple audio leads, pull the light box out and turn it on it's side, make the required solder connection to the offending circuit board, put the light box back in, then button the set back up.

My strong recommendation is to get it done. Just keep a keen eye on the tech.

inky, the way the things are going, your not gonna have to worry about it being a problem on hockey games... :(

Are the hockey players going on strike or are you predicting the end of the world? I recently saw "The Day After Tomorrow!"
