Just installed front height, not getting the atmos from Netflix

Hi!

So I just installed the front height speaker, but I'm not getting any sound from it from Netflix Atmos title.

My Setup:

1. AVR: Denon X1400H, Samsung Q70r, Built in Netflix App, speaker configuration 5.2.2
2. Amp Assign: Front height. I believed I connected the front height speaker to the right slot (Surround back, assignable)
3. Installed 2 bookshelf speaker about 5ft above my tower speaker.

Title: 6 Underground (Atmos logo is there). On my Denon app, its showing Dolby Digital + on the input (with SBL and SBR turned on green), on the output its only displaying 5.1, my FHL and FHR is off (please see the image attached).

Question:
1. Should I choose Dolby Digital + or Dolby Atmos/Surround?
2. I tried the Dolby Atmos/Surround but after selecting this Netflix would only show 5.1 logo, if I select Dolby Digital + then the atmos logo will show up.
3. I checked the sound setting on Samsung Q70r and make sure DD+ is selected.

Maybe you could recommend me another movie (with specific scene) to make sure that my front height is working? Thanks!

Using the TV apps the AVR(and TV) needs to support eARC to do atmos and not a simpler DD+ version, im not sure the x1600h supports that. If it doesnt do eARC you can get a standalone streamer which does support netflix atmos and connect directly to the AVR.

One can get Atmos over regular ARC, you don't need eARC. Also, Atmos is available through DD+. There might be some limitation with that particular TV.
How old is the Samsung?
Their TV's didn't support Atmos until the 2020 models.
As others have stated, some TV's or streaming devices cannot output Atmos, My Sony A8H OLED does not output Atmos via the built in Netflix app

Does regular not 4k Netflix have atmos ?
It shows up as dd+ When I run it , doesn’t the avr just matrix in the Atmos channels??

It depends on the streaming device, my TV will not output Atmos via Netflix, but will output DV via the same App. And yes, you can just Neural:X which I do but it will not be displayed as true Atmos If i recall. When using the "surround" button on my AVR I can change the output, which would be Neural:X if Atmos is not available.

Just saw you meant regular Netflix (not UHD) it does not have Atmos as stated by USC1995

No, regular Netflix does not have Atmos. You must have an ultra hd subscription Dolby Atmos on Netflix

I suspect the OP’s 2019 TV is not able to output Atmos via Netflix.
Hi guys,

So after tinkering, I managed to get the atmos, although I'm not sure if this simulated by the AVR or pure atmos. I just select Movie -> Dolby Atmos/Surround on my Denon.

I try planet earth and I can clearly hear bird chirping only from front height and no where else. So I guess if this is a simulated/upsampling, then they did a pretty good job and I can live with that.

My Q70r is 2019 but they say atmos is supported trough dolby digital + and arc, I think Rtings also confirm this but using lossy.

Thank you for the help!
I thought you needed updated Apps. I think the newest Roku's support it, as do most other of the newest ones.

Not sure why there are a few of you out there.

That chart is annoyingly misleading. I mean, it's correct in stating that regular ARC does not support "High Bitrate & object based up to 192khz, 24-bit (eg. Dolby Atmos, DTS:X)". However, that is not what the original posted is asking about. It DOES support compressed Atmos through lossy DD+, just NOT uncompressed Atmos via Dolby True HD. Therefore, based on the OPs post of "No atmos through Netflix", it IS getting Atmos, just not uncompressed Atmos, which is where the confusion lies. Furthermore, even if Netflix had a movie is only 5.1, it wouldn't make any difference if it was compressed or uncompressed, because Netflix DOESN'T offer uncompressed Dolby True HD at all.

Now, if the OP was playing a BD with Dolby True HD and Atmos, the TV would NEED eARC (as opposed to regular ARC) to route the lossless Dolby True HD/atmos soundtrack back to the receiver. However, the post was about Netflix and not BD.
