I've searched and read and can't find an answer but if its here and I missed it, please just point me to it.


I need just a decent D/A converter. Needs to take an optical input and output to analog (RCA). Only needs to handle PCM Stereo too. What's the cheapest way to do this?

(if it helps, what I'm actually trying to do is bypass the horrible DAC in the TurtleBeach AudioTron. I want to hook it up to my whole-house matrix switcher/amp using the digital out of the AT.)

I would look at DACs from Monarchy Audio and Channel Island Audio. If looking at the used market, I would also add Audio Alchemy.

Look for a used Audio Alchemy Dac In the Box (DITB). Used you should be able to pick one up for under $50.

Thanks all. The Audio Alchemy route sounds like the ticket as I'm not looking to spend even three digits just to improve the output of the AT.
