Thanks to you all for making this forum a great place to get info.

I currently had a HP5820n dlp.....loved the PQ ....but because of a warped screen and other issues the warranty under BB is replacing it.

Ive been researching the past few days on what kind of HDTV I should purchase.

The TV will located in my "man space"
(basement) ....so there isnt much natural light ..... I do enjoy watching movies in a darken room.

I play alot of Xbox...watch alot of Oppo upconverted dvd's...... plan on buying a bluray player....and if I watch TV programs...most of the time they are in HD.....sports...football and hockey

So...here are the choices im looking at.....I dont know if BB will approve of my demands....but im also willing to pay more to get one of these sets if I can convince myself its worth it.

So here goes...

LG 55" 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV 55LH90 or the

Samsung 55" 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV** (UN55B8000) or....

Samsung 58" 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTV** (PN58B850)

Panasonic 58" 1080p Plasma HDTV** (TCP58S1)

Is Lag that big of a problem on LED LCD's? Burn in on Samsung Plazma's ? Black issue on the Panny?

Thanks

All plasmas do have IR (image retention). On my samsung plasma, of which I just got a few days ago and have been watching alot of olympics on it with that damn logo of CTV's always there....I can see a faint image of it sometimes when it breaks for commercial but it fades away in a few seconds. THAT is NOT burn, that is IR and I'm not concerned with it. All over this forum and the internet regular people and experts are saying that plasma burn in is no longer an issue.

As for the choices in your environment, it is screaming for plasma! That will get you the best possible picture quality. I'm finding the LCD in my bedroom a bit intense now that I have a plasma in my livingroom. A plasma really comes alive and excels like no LCD can in a normal to dim room. As for which brand/model, that depends on your eyes and your needs as far as features. I'm am very pleased with my Samsung PN50B550 and my eyes chose it over comparably (higher) priced Panasonics, and that also made my wallet happy.

You won't get a direct question to a direct answer, but a biased one instead. I would just continue reading.

Although instead of focusing on plasma vs. LCD vs. DLP etc., I would instead pay more attention on getting the best brand and model. I have seen just as many bad implementations of LCD and plasma as good. And don't take anyone's word, make sure to see these sets in person.

From a lag standpoint, the Samsung's will be worse than the Panny and LG.

From what I've read ( I'm a Sammy owner waiting to settle my claim with them due to a faulty tv ) is that expect ~50ms from the Samsung plasma, up to 100ms from the LED, and less than 30ms from both the LG and Panny plasma.

I'm considering the LG due to the issues reported about diminishing black levels on the Panny's.

Thanks for the reply .....

Its not official how much they are willing to give me on my replacement....the choices are slim at BB right now....and I would like to keep the 58 inch size....but willing to go lower if it means a better unit.

Sorry...I understand "burn in" was the wrong reference and should of said IR.

Its hard to decide within the store ......just because im leary of trusting how they have the units set up. Its obvious the LCD/LED shine better in the showroom.....and my enviroment will be much different.

Looks like the LG 55LH90 might be the front runner from what I have been reading but LG scares me for some reason....I dont know why....

I didnt know that the Samsung 58" 1080p 600Hz Plasma (PN58B850) has a 50ms lag....thought plasma's were all very good in the dept.....was more concerned about the buzzing issue they had....

But thanks again......need to educate myself more....and keep on visiting the local BB
