Best Buy had them out early. I'll be watching them tonight and tomorrow, and I'll post my impressions soon afterwards. BTW, the box of Poseidon does list a TrueHD soundtrack.

Well actually it just happened to be in my gold box, so I got an extra dollar off. I haven't seen this movie yet, but I can't help but buy every disc that comes out with a trueHD track, so I would have picked it up regardless.

Is that really a combo HD-DVD/DVD ? Listings indicate it is but pictures of the artwork show it isn't... If that is a combo, then it is offered at a price that makes it interesting even for the non HD-DVD crowd that might have an interest in uprgrading in the future...

Poseidon isn't a bad movie, not the greatest, but you definitely know what you're in for and it delivers. It is beautifully shot, and the CGI effects are pretty nerve-wracking. I'll be ordering this for HD-DVD as soon as I finish this post.

Ok, I was able to watch about a third of Poseidon last night, but I'm at work right now and can't get too in depth. Some pointers.....

1. The movie IS NOT a combo disk

2. There is definitely a trueHD track

3. The movie length is 98 minutes, and from what I watched, it didn't appear to be an extended cut

PQ is great. No dust or scratches. A little grainy on the darker scenes (which is fine with me). Here's the deal. I own nearly every title with a trueHD track, and the tidal wave scene in this movie rocked my system far more than any scene in either Batman or Superman. I don't care if you think Poseidon is the worst movie of all time.... its worth a purchase just to hear that one scene.

Sorry for the ignorent Q . I have seen this posted numerous times but now i really have to ask a most noobish Question.but isnt it so that that no amp supports formats like TrueHD DTS-HD as of yet?

If so why does a trueHD track stilll sound better then say a DD+ track?

You are correct in that no current receiver decodes TrueHD, but the Toshiba HD DVD players do with the latest firmware (just TrueHD, not DTS HD MA). So if you have a receiver with HDMI, the player will decode the TrueHD and output t as PCM. Alternately, if your receiver has 5.1 analog inputs, it can also receive the TrueHD from the player. But the optical and coaxial digital outputs cannot support the bandwidth of TrueHD, so the player converts it to a regular lossy DTS stream.

For more answers you should look through the HD DVD Players forum.

I just picked up Lucky # Slevin and Pulse at my closest BB... it's rare that I EVER find anything out early there. They also had Clerks 2. What's interesting is that I never saw the initial Weinstein releases in the store, so relieved that they are stocking these.

Kewl! I was hoping there'd be this type of scene in this movie. Thanks for reporting.
