Hey! Welcome to the club! Glad you got your panel OK. I got mine (6uy) this spring and I still get a good feeling appreciating it. Just yesterday my daughter put on Elf and I was amazed at the pq. Enjoy yours.

Is the TH-42PWD7UY available at Best Buy/Circuit City type stores or just online stores?

How far are you sitting from your set, how big is your room? I'm trying to gauge if the 42" would be big enough for me.

Thanks,

From the looks of it, the chair pictured on the left is about 8'~10'. vcook himself is probably about 15' from the display.

ok, here are some quick measurements for you. these are a bit rough, give or take 6-10 inches maybe. hope this helps.

Vcook,

Thank you for measuring that, I appreciate it. I'm going to be sitting about the same distance (maybe even shorter) and didn't think a 42" would be big enough. How does it feel to you? Cinematic at all?

midnightscape,

The WAF has given the green-light for a PDP purchase beginning in 2005. I'm trying to achieve the same "cinematic" effect as you. I sit approximately 12' from a 36" 4:3 CRT HDTV and I'm wondering if a 50" 16:9 HD Plasma display will give me that HT "BIG SCREEN" look & feel while providing the optimal resolution at this distance?

my room isnt a home theater, its a living room with a tv and thats they way I like it. I didnt want the unit to dominate my room. its plenty big for satellite viewing, and big enough that I feel involved while watching movies. I could have gotten a 50in rear projection(lcd or dlp) for not much more money but I felt that it'd be too big for my room, and I saw very few that could compete with the image quality of the panny plasma.

so to answer your question, it feels cinematic to me. but I suppose that depends on your definition, I dont like to sit in the front row of theaters.

Damn, I wish I could afford a 50", I would jump on it in no time. I'm coming from a 32" 4:3 CRT that we sit 10' or less so I love that PQ with the size and don't know if the 42" is going to be a step up enough.
