It just seems down right funny that every article on DVRs are always about Tivo and ReplayTV is only mentioned as a side note as in..."competition from Tivo's competitors like Replaytv" and NEVER mentioned again in the article. I know this has been hashed and rehashed here, but come on ReplayTV. The papers and news media are as biased towards Tivo as it is biased towards Liberals and the Democratic Party.

Personally, ReplayTV as much as I love it, is falling behind the game. Yeah, I know its been said that DNNA will more than likely never do anything more with ReplayTV and focus on its own high-end platform that folks like myself can not afford and that is a shame because once Tivo (should it survive also) surpasses the ReplayTV abilities, people will start to replace them after 10 years or so to get the newest and best machines and advances in technology, advances in software etc. and it will not be a 4000.00 macnine it will be the Tivo's in the world at that time.

I have never used a Tivo, in fact, I have never seen a Tivo work. I have always had a ReplayTV, but that does not mean that when my replayTVs stop working, and or five years from now when I am tired of a stale platform that I would not hesitate to go with what is available readily for the consumer be it Tivo or whatever the next big blockbuster DVR with better features etc. Right now, I still think ReplayTV is better, but just how much longer is that going to be if ReplayTV does not get off their duff.

That being said, an excerpt from an article ......." In an effort to stay ahead of its competitors, sometime this fall TiVo to Go will allow customers to transfer files from their TiVo unit to their laptop so they can watch their favorite TiVo-recorded programs when they are away from home or even record them onto a DVD. An agreement with Netflix, a major distributor of DVD rentals, will offer TiVo customers a video-on-demand service next year."

Seems like someone needs to get their stories straight. See what I mean about bias? Even this article is about Tivo, mentions ReplayTV only once and skews the article with a bias slant to make people think that transferring shows to laptops is NOT already here, but WILL come and that its TIVO that will be the one to bring it to the world, when we ReplayTV users have been doing this already for several years, but the media would NEVER state that by using third party software (which is free and fantastic, that ReplayTV owners can already do just this very thing. Never, never, never.

Yeah, I know, I am preaching to the Choir.

Many Replay owners would probably hate this, and TiVo users are probably not happy or looking forward to it either, but then again, they don't have commercial advance:

"But TiVo isn't on a mission to eradicate commercials. In fact, TiVo spokeswoman Kathryn Kelly said the company is working with advertisers and TV networks to market special high-value ads.

"If you have the right targeted commercial and format, people will watch," Kelly said.

Currently, TiVo offers "showcases," or long-format commercials, for everything from high-end cars to major motion pictures. In the future, the company's software will allow viewers to access these specially produced commercials directly from the regular on-air commercial.

When "CSI" cuts away to a commercial for the latest BMW, for example, TiVo users will be able to hit a button and see an extended commercial for the same car. Then, with another push of the button, they'll be able to return to the show they were watching without missing a beat.

Also upcoming is a change in the service that will allow advertisers to put their brand logo on the screen while viewers are fast-forwarding past their commercials. You may not watch the Coca-Cola commercial, but you will see that recognizable Coke logo as you zip by.

Kelly said TiVo is trying to consider the concerns of program providers -- how to get you to see the commercials they are broadcasting -- without alienating TiVo users."

I don't think that most consumers really mind an advertisement that is good/funny or is of a product that people want. The problem is that most commercials work off of the principle of repetition. If you hear something often enough then the brand must be well known and consequently reputable and effective. But for me, I want to know more. Give me more details and less hype. Don't excite me; instead make me interested. Teach me something I didn't know that is useful to me. Don't just show me it is better on some contrived situation. Also, I especially hate "bait and switch" type advertising (e.g. small print, tax not included, only one car available at this price)--this sort of ad is completely useless. Ultimately if ads were better and really offered details on the things I'm interested in, I'd watch more of them. As it is, they are boring and often times I get distracted to the point of changing channels--that can't be good for the other commercials that follow.

Ok... enough ranting.

Cheers
